Are you over the red, pink and tales of love and best date ever ideas? I am!
And it’s not that I don’t like a good love story (just ask my husband how many times he’s had to watch You’ve Got Mail). It’s not that I’m in an unhappy relationship, not wanting to hear about everyone else’s fairy tale. I’ve got my own fairy tale and its a phenomenal one!
But the over kill in a month’s time period is just too much! And, while relationships are great and should be celebrated, it should be the focus all the time, not just in the month of February. A wise friend, with 30+ years in a loving marriage once told me to treat your spouse special all the time and put a priority on spending quality time together.
Here are a few ideas to show your “special someone” you care, throughout the year:
- Plan to cook a meal together – be creative & adventurous with the menu and enjoy the time at home focused on each other
- When you hear a song on a the radio that reminds you of your someone, text the a few of the lyrics as a random love note
- Be intentional about time together – plan a weekend alone a few times a year, even if it’s at home and you tell everyone else you are out of town for the weekend!
- Establish “your place” where you can go, put electronic devices away, and spend an hour or so reconnecting and communicating. This could be a restaurant, a park bench, a hiking trail. Make it easy and convenient.
- Tell them how much you love them with a note on the bathroom mirror, a mid-day text, or a post it on the dash.
